Made to Measure Now Does Software

Made to Measure is excited to announce that we are theofficial Midwest distributor for PAS software! PAS is a fast, accurate and easy-to-use CMM software package that can get your part from design to inspection in minutes!

PAS Inspection Lifecycle Management (ILM)

From the CAD model to the CMM stylus in minutes - not hours
With PAS ILM, you control the integrity of the CAD model from design all the way to inspection with no translation, no alteration and no interpretation.

PAS Inspection Lifecycle Management makes CMM programming easy. Simply create your dimensions and GD&T in Solidworks, Pro-E, or CATIA like you do already. PAS Inspection will automatically balloon the drawings for you and PAS CMM will automatically create a DMIS-based CMM program – many times in less than 5 minutes!

Don’t have Solidworks, Pro-E or CATIA? No problem! PAS CMM allows you to take your IGES or STEP model and add Dimensions and GD&T from your PDF right to your CAD model. PAS CMM will take your added data and automatically create a DMIS-based CMM program from it.

Once you've done your inspection, PAS Inspection Manager stores and collates your data for easy access viewing. Have a specific form you need to put your data in? PAS has built-in export macros that can be tailored to fit your specific forms.

Rebuilt CMM Equipment That's Like New

Why not get the latest technology without spending your money on a new frame?

Made to Measure has been in the measuring business since 1985. We've learned to do it well. And now we're helping our customers do it themselves with rebuilt CMM's outfitted with the latest technology, and upgraded, painted, and programmed—ready to go to work for you.

When we rebuild a CMM, we do more than wipe the dust off and give it a fresh coat of paint. We put in brand new air lines, wiring, controller, joystick, and computer system. We check all the scales, encoders, motors and air bearings, and we will refurbish or replace as necessary. We'll repair the granite surface and repaint the machine. We also include a brand new license of PAS ILM software for ultra-fast programming from CAD.

Not enough? We can also replace the existing probing with a new Renishaw PH20 probe to cut your inspection times in half!

Now your quality assurance department will be faster, more efficient, and have saved money doing it. Bottom line...well, the bottom line is that you will have a better bottom line.

Meet Tim Hogan!

Tim Hogan

We are excited to introduce our new National Accounts Manager, Tim Hogan. Tim comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as a passion for metrology. Recently we sat down with Tim to find out a bit more about him.

MTM: When did you join the Made to Measure team?
Tim: February 11th was my first day with Made to Measure.

MTM: Have you worked in the metrology field before?
Tim: Wow, you’re going to make me feel old now.  I’ve been working in the metrology field since I had my first “real job”.  Back in 1995 I worked for a company in Saginaw, Michigan and they were developing a contract inspection business.  So I have been in and around quality since then.

MTM: Have you only done contract inspection?
Tim: No, not really.  I was always the person that was sent out on “special assignment” and  was the person who basically did everything from coordinating gage design and builds to running a layout department with 11 CMM’s to being a Quality Engineer and even a Program Manager.  Most recently I worked for Hexagon Metrology as the Aftermarket Specialist where I focused on upgrading competitive equipment.  That was a great experience and I learned a ton thru them.

MTM: What strengths do you bring to Made to Measure?
Tim: Probably the greatest strength I bring is experience.  Many times a sales person is thought of as a “yes man” who doesn’t really know what he or she is talking about.  I’ve been in manufacturing; I’ve had my head in a CNC with the setup guy trying to figure out if the part is moving on the tombstone; I’ve talked with OEM customers trying to explain CMM results and what Profile of a Surface really means; I’ve trained people on various CMM software.  Kind of a jack of all metrology trades.

MTM: Interesting.  What is a fact about you that most people would not know?
Tim: Well, I have 4 daughters; so my world now pretty much revolves around ballet classes, gymnastics, and all things pink.  But several years ago my dad and I used to drag race and do our own engine building.  I used to race a ’68 Firebird and he had a ’70 Nova.  That was a lot of fun.  We raced the same class and a few times we actually met in the finals.  That was pretty awesome – especially the times I beat him.

Tim brings a lot of energy and new ideas to Made to Measure and we're so happy to have him aboard. Tim's insight, experience and enthusiasm will be essential as we move forward with some exciting new plans for 2013, stay tuned!

If you are interested in getting in touch with Tim, feel free to email him at tim@measure911.com, or give him a call at 847.254.8836.

Consistent Quality = Value

Someone once said "do it right the first time, and you won't have to do it more than once." That's true, unless you do it so well the first time that people ask you to do it again and again and again. That's the sort of quality and consistency that we are constantly working for at Made to Measure and we are proud of the "repeat jobs" we have earned through our hard work.

Take these ladders for construction equipment for instance. They're what we internally call a "repeat job" because we've measured the same or similar ladders before. This client has been coming to us every week for a while now to measure these ladders. They come to us because they know they can count on our accuracy and consistency every time.

But why would anyone need to measure ladders? Glad you asked! These ladders go into a piece of mining equipment and in mining, all the space in a piece of equipment needs to be used effectively. In order for these ladders to fit seamlessly with the rest of the components, the locating holes along the edges of the ladder must be perfectly aligned. That's where we come in. We measure the locating holes to ensure the every ladder will properly fit in place.

We especially enjoy this "repeat job" because it gives our large CMM some exercise, which it doesn't always get. If you need any large measurements done, send them our way, our large CMM is ready to tackle any big project!

All components that we measure at MTM are automatically a part of our end customer quality program. We guarantee that our clients have only the highest quality measurements from us so that their customers get the highest quality products.

At MTM we know that delivering consistently high quality services is extremely important to our clients and it keeps them coming back time and again. When our customers ask us to do something over and over, we're delighted to deliver consistent metrology on each and every project.

 Way to go team!

Quality: the best customer service

6 jobs.

270 pieces each.

1 week.

Total accuracy.

Done.

When a medical supplies client came to us with this job, we were ready. Our two newest technicians worked all week to make sure all 1,620 samples were perfect in every respect. When they were able to hand back the completed report at the end of the week, accuracy had met efficiency. We were happy about yet another job well done. The client was happy about meeting their deadline and about the feeling of security that comes from knowing you have a safe, solid product on the market.

When dealing with medical supplies, accuracy is vital. Errors can hurt a patient—or worse. In this case, the product in question was a hospital bed remote—not as vital to a patient's health as, say, a surgical instrument, but definitely a part of their comfort and recovery. But that's important, too. We take all of our jobs seriously here at Made to Measure. Knowing that a simple mistake on many of our projects—car brakes, surgical instruments, etc.—could seriously hurt someone is definitely a motivator for accuracy. But even simple, non-safety-related items—like a tube of chapstick—when not in spec, can turn into a major annoyance for a consumer (ever had makeup spill in your purse before?)—and that motivates us, too. For us, quality assurance is one of the highest forms of customer service. It's giving customers confidence that the product in question—whether a tube of chopstick or the vehicle they drive their kids to soccer practice in—is functioning as it should. We don't measure something to be "roughly" correct. There's no "just eyeball it." We go down to .0001" and inspect every dimension—some projects have thousands of angles to check. And every angle is worth it to know that we're keeping customers around the world happy every day.

Balancing accuracy and efficiency can be difficult. But that balance is what keeps us working hard at M2M, and why we're willing to do whatever it takes—work the late hours, hire additional staff (welcome, Clara and Mason!), and pull together the whole team—to make sure every project leaves exactly to spec and on time, serving our customers by helping them serve their customers.

Our latest hire

Meet our new CMM technician, Clara Knauber!

Eight questions to get to know Clara:

1. Did you always want a job in the engineering field?

I started off wanting to be an architect. I really like math and the design aspect of things so I was lured into the engineering department at school. I ended up loving CAD and sticking with industrial engineering.

2. What made you want to be a quality technician?

I'm kind of a perfectionist, so it's easy for me to want to inspect everything and make sure things are the way they should be.

3. What do you like most about M2M?

The people. Everyone has such a unique personality and they're all so helpful.

4. What do you like to do in your free time?

I love warm weather and being out in the sun. The racetrack is one of my favorite places to go.

5. What would you do if you had $50 million?

Travel with my family.

6. Favorite color?

Purple.

7. What's your favorite band?

I never get sick of Queen or The Beatles.

8. What's one place in the world you want to visit (that you haven't been already)?

Ireland.
